Early Modern Atlantic Workshop

Description

The Early Modern Atlantic Workshop focuses on history of the Atlantic World, an emergent interdisciplinary field that reconceives of early American, European and African history as an interconnected economic, environmental, cultural zone. We consider the “Atlantic” to encompass both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, including Africa, Europe, and all the Americas, even regions bordering the Pacific. Our group aims to cultivate a multidisciplinary community of scholars from a variety of institutions to discuss the contours, possibilities, and limitations of the early modern Atlantic as a field of study.

Leadership

The primary contacts for the Early Modern Atlantic Workshop are Katharine Gerbner, History: kgerbner@umn.edu and Joanne Jahnke-Wegner, History: jahnk049@umn.edu
