We're glad you're here!
More than 1,100 students took part in the Graduate & Professional Student Welcome & Orientation on September 1 at Northrop.
The day-long event, which welcomed doctoral students in the morning and Master's/professional students in the afternoon, was bridged by a resource fair. Representatives from 34 university departments and offices took part in this year's orientation, helping new students learn how to navigate the U and make the most of their graduate/professional student experience. Plenary and breakout sessions introduced incoming students to information and resources at the University level, such as professional development, working with an advisor, teaching and learning, health and well-being, and opportunities in leadership and governance. Many of the day's presentations can be found online: http://grad2.umn.edu/orientation/resources.html. Thanks to the many students, staff and faculty members who volunteered to help new students feel welcome and prepared for the year ahead!
Here's what a few students had to say about this year's event:
"It was very interactive and engaging! It got me to reach out and interact with fellow grad students as we reflected on what challenges we face in the coming months."
"Very useful, especially for those of us who have been out school for years."
"All the information is extremely relevant and info that will be used over and over again."
"Great tips and resources. Thank you."
