Graduate School announces new Assistant to the Vice Provost & Dean of Graduate Education

Dear Colleagues,Etty Deveaux

I’m pleased to announce that Etty DeVeaux has accepted the position of Assistant to the Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Education, effective September 6.

Earlier this summer we began a competitive, internal search for someone to fill this new position in the Graduate School. The response to the job opening was tremendous: never have I been involved in a search process with so many well-qualified applicants. Etty was selected after a thorough review process and interviews with the search committee, Graduate School staff, Provost’s Office staff, and me.

In this position, Etty will provide direct professional support to me in creating a vision for advancing the quality, reputation, stature, and aspirational goals of graduate education and in providing the effective oversight and administration of the Graduate School. In addition, she will function as a liaison with other senior leaders, colleges, departments, faculty staff, students, and a range of internal and external constituencies, and serve on committees and cross-functional work groups that benefit graduate education.

Many of you may already know Etty, as she has served in a number of increasingly responsible leadership roles at the University, most recently as Administrative Director in the Departments of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior and Plant Biology, and as Cluster Director of Operations in the College of Biological Sciences. Etty has experience working in central administrative roles as well, as Assistant to the Vice President and Administrative Services Director in the Office of the Vice President of University Services and as Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School.

I am confident that Etty will be a valuable and respected member of the Graduate School team and an enthusiastic ambassador for graduate education throughout the University. In accepting the position, Etty remarked that she is “thrilled and honored to join a team so manifestly energetic and committed to advancing the Graduate School mission… I’m looking forward to helping to keep focus on what matters most as we move to new levels of distinction in graduate education.”

Please join me in welcoming Etty to the Graduate School!

Warm Regards,

Scott Lanyon
Vice Provost & Dean of Graduate Education
