April 15th Resolution
This is a reminder notice regarding the "April 15 Resolution" from the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS).
At this point in the application cycle, many graduate programs across the country are actively recruiting their top admitted students. Since the 1960s, CGS has maintained the "April 15 Resolution" to allow time for these admitted applicants to consider their options among competing offers. Institutions across the country are signatories of this resolution.
Up until April 15 of each cycle, applicants are under no obligation to agree to any offers of financial support (e.g. scholarships, fellowships, traineeships, or assistantships). This means that graduate programs and departments cannot pressure recipients to agree to their offers before April 15.
If you encounter any peer institutions that may be in breach of the April 15 resolution, please contact the Graduate Admissions office immediately so we can assist with appropriate next steps:
You may also wish to review your own offer letters to ensure your graduate program is in compliance with the April 15 resolution. For more information, including template language for your letters, please visit the Graduate Admissions Toolkit page: http://z.umn.edu/cgsapril15
Download the most recent copy of the resolution (updated October 2017).
Finally, feel free to contact Dean Tsantir, Director of Graduate Admissions, with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your help ensuring the University of Minnesota is in compliance with this important resolution
