Old System

Equivalent to US Bachelor’s:

  • Bachelors Honours

Note: Ireland does have 3 year bachelors degrees and formerly a 3 year National Diploma.  These would not be comparable to the US 4 year bachelors degree.

Equivalent to US Master’s:

  • Masters degree is usually 2 years

Professional qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Education is 3 years and not comparable to a US bachelors degree. 
  • Bachelors of Education Honours is 4 years and is comparable to a US bachelors degree.
  • Postgraduate Diplomas are usually 1 year of graduate level study.
