Summer Institute Selection Criteria


To be eligible for the Graduate School Fellows Summer Institute, applicants must be:

  1. either currently enrolled Ph.D. students or Postdoctoral/Research Associates;
  2. in good standing with their program and making timely degree progress (Ph.D. students); and
  3. able to commit to the full week-long program (9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday, August 15, through Friday, August 19, 2016).
Review and Selection Criteria

The review will be conducted by a University-wide faculty committee.  Selection of participants for the Summer Institute will be based on the following criteria:

  1. The interdisciplinary nature of the “Grand Challenges”-related research questions/problems the applicant is interested in addressing
  2. The interdisciplinary nature of the applicant’s own research
  3. The applicant’s ability to communicate the value of their own research and its potential impact
  4. For Ph.D. students, the student's good standing in the graduate program
