The primary goals of this initiative focus on graduate students. These goals include advancing the excellence of academic programs, improving the graduate student experience, and conserving fiscal resources. At the same time, a guiding principle is to make the transition seamless and transparent, and to continue supporting every student's progress to degree.

February 9 - Restructuring announced
April 24 - Committee on Graduate Education makes recommendations
June 26- President issues report, Renewing Graduate and Professional Education
July 1 - Some reporting lines change from the Graduate School to other units
July - Search committee appointed for a new vice provost and dean of graduate education; application review begins August 20
September 17 - Work groups charged to make recommendations on academic issues and student administrative processes related to graduate education
September 22-28 - Public forums for finalists in the search for a new vice provost and dean
November 2 – Henning Schroeder appointed as the new vice provost and dean of graduate education, effective January 19, pending Board of Regents approval in November
December 1 - Work groups' recommendations due, to be followed by a 30-day public comment period

July 1 - Target start date for many new processes and procedures
