Application Information

Any student with a U.S. bachelor's degree or a comparable foreign degree from a recognized college or university may apply to The Graduate School for admission.

Links to the home pages of all graduate programs, which include application information and access to the electronic application for admission, may be reached through Graduate School Programs.

All international applicants who have attended universities that issue official transcripts on request must submit such credentials; the transcripts must be received in the Graduate School Office of Admissions directly from the schools. An official, notarized (signature and seal) English translation should be attached if the transcript is not in English. For English language translation services in the Twin Cities area, click here or contact the Graduate Admissions office at (612) 625-2040.

The Graduate School prefers an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale) for admission. Individual programs may prefer a higher GPA. Applicants should consult the program to which they are applying for more specific information about admission.

University of Minnesota undergraduates who have no more than 7 semester credits or two courses to complete for the bachelor's degree (including both distribution and total credit requirements), if they are admitted, may register in The Graduate School to begin a graduate program while simultaneously completing their baccalaureate work.

The application for admission must be submitted online and all required supporting materials should be sent to The Graduate School. Please note that we will automatically e-mail you a notice indicating if anything is missing, as soon as we complete the initial review of your application materials. We will also e-mail you a notice if your application is complete.
