Postdoctoral Training Program in Comparative Medicine and Pathology

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota is now accepting applications from veterinarians seeking state-of-the-art research training in two newly-funded NIH postdoctoral training programs. The goal of these programs is to provide students with sufficient broad based knowledge, quality communication skills, and advanced research training essential for a career as an independent investigator. The faculty mentors in the program represent a diverse group of disciplines including pharmacology, cell biology, infectious disease, neurobiology, physiology, genetics, molecular biology, and morphology. Trainees without a PhD degree will be strongly encouraged to pursue a PhD in the Molecular Veterinary Biosciences (MVB) graduate program. Selection criteria will include the following: 1) academic credentials and performance during veterinary school and clinical training/residency (if applicable); 2) strong interest in research and a desire for a career in academic veterinary medicine; and 3) desirable personal characteristics including integrity, perseverance, and communications skills. The ideal applicant will have completed a residency program; however, recent graduates and individuals with veterinary practice experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent foreign degree by start date and must be a U.S. citizen or non citizen national. Salary is $35,568 to $51,036 (depending on experience). Tuition/fees, health insurance, travel stipend, and trainee-related expenses are included. Application deadline is February 1, 2004 or until positions are filled.
