Postdoctoral Opportunities at the U of M

Cardiovascular Disease Genetic Epidemiology

Posted on 10/22/2004

Postdoctoral Positions in Genetic Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease. The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis is currently seeking postdoctoral candidates. A postdoctoral fellowship is open to those holding either a PhD, MD, or the equivalent. Individuals with training in general epidemiology who wish to specialize in genetic epidemiology are encouraged to apply. Conversely, geneticists or other basic scientists who wish to receive training in epidemiology are qualified and welcome, as are physicians with an interest in genetics and epidemiology. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. The Genetic Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease Research Group conducts family studies for gene mapping, as well as research in pharmacogenomics, gene-environment interaction, and statistical genetics. Under guidance of experienced faculty members, fellows have the flexibility to work on projects that interest them. Fellows have the option of seeking an MPH, but coursework is not required. However, some participants may wish to fill gaps in their training by tapping into the outstanding set of graduate courses offered by the University of Minnesota. Participants will receive stipends commensurate with their education and experience. Within certain limits, fellowships cover the costs of health insurance, tuition and fees. Each fellow will also receive a travel allotment to attend professional conferences. More information can be found at http://www.epi.umn.edu/academic/fellowships/genetics.shtm. For specific questions about the nature of the fellowship, contact Dr. James Pankow at pankow@epi.umn.edu or 612/624-2883. For questions about the application process, please contact grant secretary Barb Lux at lux@epi.umn.edu or 612/626-9092.
