Who can apply?

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. (Permanent residents must provide a photocopy of green card.)

What is the application deadline?

Applications must postmarked by February 15, 2008 will be reviewed.

What are the program dates?

June 1 – August 9, 2008

How many people typically apply for MSROP?

In 2007 there were over 350 applicants. MSROP draws on a national applicant pool.

How many students are accepted into MSROP?

20-25 (based on funding)

Can I take a class over the summer?

No

How will I be contacted?

You are contacted primarily by e-mail. Be sure the e-mail you put on you application is one you check regularly.

When will decisions be made?

Individuals will be contacted to request telephone interview in early March. Decisions will be made by late March.

When does the review of applications begin?

February 15th (Only Complete applications are reviewed)

How will I know if my application is complete?

It is your responsibility to make sure your application is complete. If you are unsure send e-mail to MSROP@umn.edu.

How long is the telephone interview?

Approximately 30 minutes

I have been asked to take part in a telephone interview, does that mean I am accepted into the program?

No


How are faculty mentors assigned?

The MSROP Program matches students with a faculty mentor once they have been admitted to the program. Students are paired with faculty based on the reserach and disciplinary interest expressed in the application.

 

What if I have already contacted or know the faculty with whom I'd like to work?

On the application form, you may identify a faculty member with whom you would prefer to work, however, it is not necessary that you identify a faculty member in advance.

 

Is my application viewed differently if I DO NOT identify a faculty mentor with whom I'd like to work?

No.  Whether or not you have identified a faculty member with whom you wish to work is not a factor in determining admission to the program.
