Visioning Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs Workshop Series
Developing a Sustainable Resource Base
Wednesday, February 4, 3:00-5:00 pm
Mississippi Room, Coffman Memorial Union
This workshop is the last in a series that is designed to enhance our institutional capacity to work effectively across disciplines; to significantly improve our ability to conduct interdisciplinary research, scholarship and creative work; and to build and sustain programs that provide unparalleled interdisciplinary graduate education and training. This workshop will help participants identify the necessary resources for sustaining their program. Resources will be considered broadly in terms of faculty, staff, students, space, technology, and financial support. The workshop will consider the strategies necessary to gain essential support, including agreements with department and college administrators, and revenue generating possibilities.
Presenters will include:
- John Bryson, Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs
- Jay S. Coggins, Director of Graduate Studies, Applied Economics
- Allen Levine, Dean; College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Science
- Susan Wolf, Chair, Consortium on Law and Values in Health, Environment & the Life Sciences and Director, Joint Degree Program in Law, Health & the Life Sciences
****Space is limited and early registration is recommended. Registration in the preceding two workshops is not required to attend on February 4. ****
The workshop is free, but registration is required.
Participants are invited to consider the following brief reflection questions prior to the workshop:
1) What would you most like to accomplish in your program (over the next year, over the next three years, over the next five years)?
2) What resources (people, funding, training, etc.) will help you achieve this goal?
3) What actions will you need to take to achieve this goal?
Workshop participants will receive a workbook with tools to aid them in developing a funding proposal that may be used either internally or externally, or both, to make a case for funding for their program.
