Workshop Description:
Mentoring is a key factor in developing and retaining outstanding faculty, students, and staff. It is also an essential skill for successful interdisciplinary collaboration.
This workshop explored mentoring relationships within an interdisciplinary context from the perspective of faculty, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and staff involved in collaborative team work and interdisciplinary research, teaching, and creative activities.
Topics addressed include:
- How is mentoring within an interdisciplinary context different from traditional mentoring?
- What models and best practices exist for interdisciplinary and collaborative mentoring relationships?
- What are the characteristics of successful mentoring relationships in interdisciplinary and collaborative settings?
- How do you identify a mentor or mentors?
- What can we do better from an individual and an institutional perspective with regard to mentoring in interdisciplinary contexts?
