The Graduate School offers a number of workshops each semester that may be of interest to international students.

Classes on Writing and Presentation

• The Writing Studies Department offers two classes for non-native speakers:
  WRIT 5051, Graduate Research Writing Practice for Non-native Speakers of English
  WRIT 5052, Graduate Research Presentations and Conference Writing for Non-Native Speakers of English
  
• Students in the Carlson School of Management may take these two courses:
  MCOM 5520 Persuasive Writing in Business: Non-Native Speakers of English
  MCOM 5540 Strategies and Skills for Managerial Presentations: Non-Native Speakers of English
  

Editors and Proofreaders

The Graduate School does not endorse or recommend any particular editors or proofreaders available from the Web sites and list-servs provided here for your convenience. The editors and proofreaders act as private contractors for hire; use all due care and caution when hiring someone to work for you.

• UMN instructor Sheryl Holt has written a book especially for non-native English speakers, Success with Graduate and Scholarly Writing (for purchase).
• The Center for Teaching & Learning offers resources for non-native speakers.
• The College of Continuing Education offers English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes and Other Information
• The Center for Writing provides links to helpful sites for learning English grammar and usage, and they have three writing consultants who specialize in work with non-native English speakers: Pat Eliason, Kit Hansen, and Kim Strain. You can read their bios here and request a writing consultation with one of them.
• UNC-Chapel Hill's Writing Center has an ESL Student Resources page. Please be aware that a few of the resources are available only for students at UNC.
