Description —
The Graduate School Fellowship Office has set aside a small expense fund to assist programs with the cost of bringing a limited number of Graduate School Fellowship nominees to campus for a recruiting visit. Funds are available on a first-come first-served basis. Upon request in advance of the travel dates, the Graduate School will provide up to $300 in reasonable airfare expenses for travel from outside the greater metropolitan area (i.e., lowest-cost 21-day advance purchase airfare), anticipating that programs will contribute to transportation expenses, and provide lodging, meals, and local transportation.
Timetable —
Make your request early — all recruitment travel requests must be approved in advance, and tickets must be purchased at least 21 days in advance of travel. You may request travel funds as soon as the nominee and departure site have been identified, including prior to the January 22 nomination deadline.
- Travel fund requests must be made before March 15
- Funds are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
(Be aware that available funds may be depleted before March 15.)
- Your request must be approved in advance of promising Graduate School reimbursement to prospective students, and in advance of actual travel dates.
- Visits must take place before April 15 (the date by which a prospective student who has accepted a graduate school’s financial support offer is bound by the decision).
- Programs must request actual reimbursement before May 15.
How to Request Travel Funds —
Write to the Graduate Fellowship Office, 314 Johnston Hall, East Bank Campus, or e-mail your request to gsfellow@umn.edu, with:
- Name of the nominee and departure site
- Amount requested (airfare only)
- Details of program/departmental contribution toward total expenses
The Graduate School will respond to travel fund requests as soon as possible.
