Privately-Funded Fellowships, 2012-13

These Fellowships are supported by endowed income from wills and trusts, or gifts from organizations or individuals. Recipients are expected to register for credit in the Graduate School during the tenure of the award. Available only to currently enrolled graduate students. Deadline: 12 noon, December 1 (if deadline falls on a weekend, then the following Monday).

 

Alexander & Lydia Anderson Fellowship

Preference given to students who have completed either a bachelor's or a master's degree at the University of Minnesota in the plant or animal sciences - e.g., animal sciences, applied plant sciences, ecology, forestry, and plant pathology - with preference given to students involved in basic research,  May be used for study or research, in summer or during the academic year. Summer stipend:  Up to $3,000 and/or research grant of up to $3,000.

Carolyn M. Crosby Fellowship

Available to doctoral students engaged in field-based plant biology investigation.  May be used for independent field research or study at a field facility such as the Lake Itasca Forestry and Biological Station.  Summer stipend:  Up to $3,000 and/or research grant of up to $3,000.

For doctoral students doing study/research in the botanical sciences. Stipend: $22,500.

Norman Johnston Dewitt Fellowship

For advanced doctoral students in the humanities.  Relevant graduate programs may nominate one student.  Stipend: $22,500.

Louise T. Dosdall Fellowship

For women doctoral students in the natural or physical sciences and engineering, where women are underrepresented (i.e., less than 50%) in the graduate program. Stipend: $22,500.

Stanwood Johnston Fellowship

For doctoral students in biochemistry, chemistry, geology, geophysics, microbiology, or physics. Stipend: $22,500.

Frieda Martha Kunze Fellowship

For doctoral students in biochemistry, chemistry, or biomedical sciences. Stipend: $22,500.

Harold Leonard Memorial Fellowship in Film Study

Open to graduate students proposing a year of well-defined research or study in film history, criticism, theory, or aesthetics. Up to two awards. Stipend: $22,500, plus tuition.

Eva O. Miller Fellowship

For graduate students in the broad areas of psychology or statistics and measurement. Students apply in one of two categories: 1) for students in the beginning stages of their graduate career (eligible students may apply in their first or second year of Graduate School, or 2) for students who are in the intermediate or advanced phase of their program at the time of application, usually in their third year or later. Up to three awards. Stipend: $22,500, plus tuition.

For masters or doctoral students pursuing interdisciplinary work whose content is focused in the areas of science policy and ethics. Stipend: $22,500.
