When is the deadline to apply for the Graduate School Fellowship?

Programs must submit their nomination packages to the Graduate School Fellowship Office by January 23, 2009, to be considered for the 2009-10 academic year of funding.

Please be advised that each department has their own internal deadline for fellowship consideration; they will need time to select their nominees and prepare the nomination packages. Therefore, if you wish to be considered for a Graduate School Fellowship, you will need to contact your program to determine their internal deadline for fellowship consideration. How do I submit an application for the Graduate School Fellowship?

Departments submit the nomination packages; there is no separate application for the nominee to complete. However, you will need to have completed your online application to The Graduate School, so that your program has access to the materials they will need for your package. Apply to The Graduate School

You will also need to contact your program to let them know that you wish to be considered for nomination. Each program receives a limited number of nominations, and has their own internal procedure and deadline for selecting their nominees. Program Information

 

What are the requirements for Graduate School Fellowship eligibility?

  • The nominee must have applied online for admission to the University of Minnesota Graduate School before January 23, 2009 in order to be eligible for funding in the 2009-10 academic year. Apply to The Graduate School

  • The nominee must be entering the University of Minnesota Graduate School for the first time in Fall 2009. Or, the nominee must be a student who previously earned a University of Minnesota master's degree in a field of high workforce demand at the master's level (such as engineering, education, or nursing), who at the time of nomination has been employed and away from campus for a minimum of at least one year after graduation, and is returning for a PhD in the same major.

  • The nominee must be:

    • entering a PhD program, or

    • entering a master's degree program with the intention of pursuing a PhD immediately following completion of the master's, or

    • entering a terminal master's degree program (where the faculty terminal degree is typically the master's degree, such as an MFA or MArch).
