2012-2013 International Graduate Student Funding Amounts
The following are the minimum funding amounts international students will be required to present for the 2012-13 academic year in order for the Graduate School Office of Admissions to issue the form I-20 required to obtain a student visa.
These figures are the combination of cost of tuition (if applicable), books and supplies, mandatory student fees and health insurance, and living expenses.
1.) $16,417 - 50% graduate assistant
2.) $24,718 - 25% graduate assistant
3.) $39,591 - international students who do not hold an assistantship
Duluth campus figures are available via the following link:

Please note that your graduate program can set whatever assistantship or fellowship stipends you wish. We are simply informing you of these amounts as a service in case you want to set your stipends accordingly. For example, if your graduate program is able to offer a stipend of at least $16,417 to a 50% graduate assistant, that student will not have to prove any additional funding in order for us to issue the I-20 visa document. This might make for a more attractive award as the student would then avoid the burden of proving any additional funding.
Again though, your program can offer any stipend amount – either less or more than the amounts listed above.
Please note that figures will vary for those assistants majoring in fields with a tuition rate that is different than the standard Graduate School rate for 6-14 credits. Also, for information about how to calculate the costs for students with assistantships other than 25% or 50%, or if you have any other questions, please contact our office.
