Grant-in-Aid of Research, Artistry and Scholarship Program (GIA)

Applications are accepted from faculty (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor) who hold (or will hold during the 2008-2009) regular appointments (i.e., tenured or tenure-track), or full-time (100%) annually renewable, fixed term, or clinical-track faculty appointments.  New faculty must begin their appointment by the start date of the grant.

University of Minnesota faculty (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor) holding full-time (100%) salaried "I," "J," "K","F" or "W"(Salaried Medical School) appointments who are annually evaluated like tenured and tenure-track faculty (in terms of their research accomplishments, independence and ability to secure external funding), are eligible for Grant-in-Aid support.*

By approving the Application, the department chair guarantees a commitment for salary and space for the term of the grant.

Note that eligibility does not include employees with "T" appointments, non-salaried faculty appointment type "W," or Academic Professional or Extension Service employees with "J" or "K" appointment types.

* Eligibility for Category One (new members of the faculty):

If a faculty member on an "I," "J," "K", "F", "W"(Salaried Med School) appointment receives a Grant-in-Aid, their four-year clock for category 1 eligibility coincides with the begin date of their award. If they do not receive a Grant-in-Aid prior to being appointed in a tenure-track position, their four-year clock starts on the begin date of their tenure-track appointment.
