Distinguished Women Scholars Awards

The following information should be included in the DWSA nomination dossier. Please provide the original and six copies:

  1. Cover Page Download Link: PDF
  2. Letter of nomination that addresses:
    • Highlights of the nominee’s achievements in research, scholarly or creative/artistic activity.
    • Impact of this work on the field, using discipline specific criteria.
    • National and international scholarly reputation.
    • Distinguished role in undergraduate and graduate education and mentoring (including postdoctoral), with emphasis on highlighting impact on future generations of scholars.
    • Contributions to the university community, profession and society at large.
    The nomination letter is limited to two pages and should be written in language that can be understood by a general audience. The letter must not be prepared by the nominee.
  3. Curriculum vitae and list of publications of the nominee. The vitae should include classes taught and students mentored.
  4. Listing of those who are writing letters of recommendation for the nominee including name, title, affiliation, and relationship to the nominee.
  5. At least two, but no more than four external letters of recommendation from individuals who are qualified to critically evaluate the stature of the nominee in their field, and the general impact of their work on human knowledge in general. Additional letters from colleagues and/or former students are optional, but no more than five letters of recommendation in total are allowed. All letters should be addressed to the Distinguished Women Scholars Award Committee.

Deadlines and Notification

  • Nominations to College Deans: Friday, January 18, 2008
  • Final nominations from College Deans to Graduate School: Monday, January 28, 2008
  • Nominators and nominees will be notified of the outcome mid-March, 2008.

Completed nomination dossiers, including the Dean's letter of endorsement, should be sent to:
