3M Science and Technology Fellowships

The purpose of this fellowship program is to promote graduate student excellence at the University, by providing four-year 3M Science and Technology Fellowships to 12 outstanding new Ph.D. students per year in broad areas of science and technology.  The value of the fellowship is $25,000 in the first year; in years 2-4, a partial 3M stipend of $8,000 is matched by a departmental half-time graduate assistantship.  Programs to receive the awards are selected each year by the dean of the Graduate School, in consultation with relevant collegiate dean’s offices.  Programs then offer the fellowship to an incoming student of their choice.  Funds are transferred annually to a special departmental 3M Fellowship account.
