Graduate Program requirements

If you have not already done so, you should immediately contact your major program or visit their web site for admissions information, including program application materials, financial aid, start dates, deadlines, and other important information. Programs that require specific materials may not consider the Graduate School application for admission until they receive these materials.

Please Note: The application fee ($75 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents and $95 for international students) cannot be waived or deferred, and is not refundable.

Transcripts / Credentials

You must report on your application and submit transcripts from ALL institutions of higher learning - including partial or incomplete transcripts.

You may be considered for admission with unofficial transcripts or credentials.  However, if you are admitted, you will be required to submit official transcripts prior to registering and enrolling at the University of Minnesota.

Students who have been previously enrolled at the University of Minnesota do not need to submit U of M transcripts to the Admissions Office.  We will obtain these for you.  Please check with your program of interest to see if they require you to submit University of Minnesota transcripts.

You may be considered for admission with transcripts submitted the following ways:

  • Mailed photocopies
  • Legible faxed copies
  • Mailed unofficial copies as long as they were issued with your name and the name of the institution on them.
  • Official copies sent directly from your institutions to the University of Minnesota

The Graduate School reserves the right to require the submission of official transcripts or credentials any time during the admission review process. To be considered official, the documents must be sent directly from your institution (s) to our office.

For initial review, transcripts can be faxed to: (612) 625-6002

The address for submitting unofficial or official transcripts by mail is:

Graduate School
University of Minnesota
309 Johnston Hall
