DISTINGUISHED MASTER’S THESIS AWARD

Nomination Deadline:  Friday, October 12, 2007

INTRODUCTION
The Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award is given in recognition of distinguished scholarship and research at the master’s level.  The University of Minnesota recipient will be nominated to the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools’ (MAGS) annual Distinguished Master’s Thesis competition.

ELIGIBILITY:    Since the intent of the competition is to recognize scholarship by students who are pursuing their first graduate research degree, individuals who received a PhD (or comparable research degree) in any discipline prior to the writing of the master's thesis are not eligible.  On the other hand, recipients of a first professional degree awarded prior to the writing of the thesis can be nominated.  Nominations will be accepted in any discipline; however, original works accepted by the institution "in lieu of thesis" (such as musical compositions, works of art, computer software, etc.) are ineligible.  Eligible nominees must have been awarded the Master's degree between the dates October 1, 2006 - September 30, 2007.

NOMINATION:   Each graduate program may submit one nomination of a Plan A master's thesis to the Graduate School, by submitting:

            1) one copy of the thesis, along with three copies of the following:
            2) a one-page nomination letter from the DGS;
            3) a 300-word abstract describing the research and its significance, including the
                thesis title and name of the author; and
            4) a letter of support from the adviser.
