Privately-Funded Fellowships, 2009-10

These Fellowships are supported by endowed income from wills and trusts, or gifts from organizations or individuals. Recipients are expected to register for credit in the Graduate School during the tenure of the award. Available only to currently enrolled graduate students. Deadline: 12 noon, December 1 (if deadline falls on a weekend, then the following Monday).

Recipients of 2008-09 Endowed Fellowships

 

Alexander and Lydia Anderson Fellowship

Preference for students who have completed either a bachelor's or a master's degree at the University of Minnesota by no later than the end of the 2009 Spring Semester.  Must be graduate students in 2009-2010 in the plant or animal sciences - e.g., animal sciences, ecology, forestry, and plant pathology - with preference given to students involved in basic research,  May be used for study or research in summer or during the academic year.  Up to three awards.  Summer stipend:  Up to $3,000 and/or research grant of up to $3,000.

Carolyn M. Crosby Fellowship

Available to graduate students engaged in field-based plant biology investigation.  May be used for independent field research or study at a field facility such as the Lake Itasca Forestry and Biological Station.  Up to three awards.  Summer stipend:  Up to $3,000 and/or research grant of up to $3,000.

Norman Johnston DeWitt Fellowship

For advanced graduate students in the humanities.  Relevant programs may nominate one student.  One award.  Stipend: $22,000, plus tuition.

Louise T. Dosdall Fellowship

Open to women doctoral students in the natural or physical sciences and engineering where women are underrepresented (i.e., less than 50%) in the graduate program. Up to two awards. Stipend: $22,000, plus tuition.

Stanwood Johnston Fellowship

For graduate students in biochemistry, chemistry, geology, geophysics, microbiology, or physics. One award. Stipend: $22,000, plus tuition.

Harold Leonard Memorial Fellowship in Film Study

Open to graduate students proposing a year of well-defined research or study in film history, criticism, theory, or aesthetics. Up to two awards. Stipend: $22,000, plus tuition.

Eva O. Miller Fellowship

For graduate students in the broad areas of psychology or statistics and measurement. Students apply in one of two categories: 1) for students in the beginning stages of their graduate career (eligible students may apply in their first or second year of Graduate School, or 2) for students who are in the intermediate or advanced phase of their program at the time of application, usually in their third year or later. One award. Stipend: $22,000, plus tuition.
