Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (GSPBC) and Nursing Post-Masters Certificate (GSNPMC): Requirements for Graduation

  1. GSPBC/GSNPMC Program submission is based on departmental requirements, but must be filed with The Graduate School no later than one term prior to graduation.
  2. Once the GSPBC/GSNPMC Program form has been approved by The Graduate School, request a graduation packet on this page or stop by 316 Johnston Hall.
  3. Submit the Application for Degree Form (included in the graduation packet) to 200 Fraser Hall (East Bank) or 130 Coffey Hall (St. Paul) by the first working day of your intended month of graduation.

Filing the Application for Degree with the Office of the Registrar notifies the University of your intended month/year of graduation. Once notified, The Graduate School will review your file to determine whether you can be cleared immediately for the GSPBC or if you have any outstanding requirements to complete.

What the Student Services office in the Graduate School checks when clearing you for the award of the GSPBC:

  1. Graduate School-approved GSPBC/GSNPMC degree program form is on file.
  2. You hold active status in The Graduate School.
  3. All coursework included on the GSPBC/GSNPMC degree program form is complete, with grades posted on your transcript.
  4. Your GSPBC/GSNPMC degree program coursework does not exceed the four-year time limit.
  5. Your GSPBC/GSNPMC degree program grade point average meets or exceeds The Graduate School's 2.8 minimum (Note: your certificate program may require a higher GPA; if so, you must meet or exceed the certificate program's minimum standard.)
  6. Your GSPBC/GSNPMC Final Report Form, signed by the Director of Graduate Studies of your department, verifying that all certificate-specific requirements have been successfully completed, is on file with The Graduate School.

You will be notified via your U of M email account regarding the status of your degree completion by the second week of the intended month of degree completion as indicated on the Application for Degree. This email will either confirm that all requirements have been met, or detail any outstanding requirements that must be completed to have the degree awarded.

Graduate School registration requirement: As a Graduate School student you are required to register every fall and spring term to maintain active status up through and including the term in which you will officially complete your degree. Failure to maintain your active status will result in the discontinuation of your student status and require applying for readmission.
